Imparting an Understanding of Visual Art.
The Purpose of the Foundation.
ART MENTOR FOUNDATION LUCERNE supports institutions and projects which promote the understanding of visual art. It also assists in the financing of scholarly projects and works which deal with imparting an understanding of «art» as a phenomenon.
In the field of visual art, the Foundation concentrates on two primary areas of interest:
- Support for the imaginative, educational and scholarly engagement with the permanent collections of art museums with the goal to enabling or improving access to the works.
- Support for landmark special exhibitions.
The Foundation is involved primarily with projects which are related to a larger context and achieve long-term effects. It focuses its attention on projects which are otherwise financially difficult to realize.
Permanent Collections
As part of its goal of promoting the aesthetic and educational potential of public art museums, the Foundation supports projects involving the conservation, scholarly categorisation, restoration, publication (especially in more than one language) and reinstallation of the permanent collection. The Foundation is looking in particular for projects which imaginatively combine these aspects and, if appropriate, make use of the potential of the internet.
ART MENTOR FOUNDATION LUCERNE in addition promotes the creation of positions in the field of art education with special attention to the institution’s collections. Likewise the Foundation finances special projects which help long-term to remove infrastructure deficits at institutions.
Special Exhibitions
Outstanding exhibition projects and catalogs with the necessary scholarly basis are eligible for consideration for support whereby the accompanying programs involving the imparting of understanding will be given serious consideration. The Foundation is open to applications dealing with all areas and periods of art, including contemporary art. Its main interests are, however, primarily in international special exhibitions with art from earlier eras and non-Western cultures.
